Please do not make the mistake of judging a whole organization as good or bad based on Kate Puzey’s story. That would be incredibly sad and belittle the amazing work and friendships that Peace Corps volunteers have acheived over the last 50 years.

My two cents: I do not understand why Peace Corps volunteers, especially the ones who have fallen or have run into dangerous situations while in service, are not treated with the esteem that the military treats their soldiers, or that the public treats the soldiers. I see so many similarities in the relationships between military/soldier and PC/volunteer. Yes, there are many differences, as well, but would all of this have been quite as big of an issue if PC had held up the fallen & taken more care with dealing with their families? Why does society as a whole treat these two groups so differently?
Twitter is… atwitter… with consternation about an ABC News 20/20 investigation which aired tonight. After an investigation, ABC learned that “more than 1,000 young American women have been raped or sexually assaulted” since 2000.
